Open Letter to UNICEF Leadership: Call for the Removal of Alecia Moore (Pink) as Goodwill Ambassador

Dear UNICEF Leadership,
I am writing to formally express deep concern regarding the ongoing role of Alecia More (Pink) as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. As educators and advocates dedicated to the well-being, protection, and rights of children globally, we believe that representatives of your organization must embody strict humanitarian neutrality, profound empathy, and un unwavering commitment to protecting all children, without exception.
Recent public actions and statements by Ms. Moore are fundamentally at odds with these core principles and damage the credibility of UNICEF’s ongoing relief operations in Gaza.
UNICEF has repeatedly warned of the catastrophic human toll on children in Gaza, reporting that thousands have been killed and thousands more face displacement, malnutrition, and severe trauma. In such a critical moment, the global community expects UNICEF’s representatives to amplify these urgent calls for child protection, humanitarian relief, and an end to violence.
Instead, Ms. Moore recently used her public platform to amplify rhetoric dismissing calls for peace and freedom for Palestinians civilians. By reposting content that characterized public pro-Palestinian advocacy and anti-war statements as ‘anti-Israel propaganda’, she aligned herself with political messaging that trivialized human rights advocacy. In addition, her public commentary contributed to escalating pressure against fellow artists using their platforms to speak against the military actions causing mass child casualties in Gaza.
Whilst Ms. Moore subsequently issued a statement regarding her personal perspectives, her public commentary demonstrates a clear conflict with the neutral and inclusive mandate required of a UN representative:
1. When a Goodwill Ambassador frames public opposition to an ongoing child crisis as targeted political hostility, it directly undermines the messaging and mission of aid workers on the ground who are striving to highlight child suffering.
2. UNICEF relies on public trust and moral authority to execute its global mandate. Allowing an official ambassador to publicly minimize or dismiss advocacy for innocent victims erodes global confidence in UNICEF’s commitment to Palestinian children.
3. Goodwill Ambassadors are expected to transcend political divisions, and serve as an unyielding voice for vulnerable children everywhere. Dismissing calls for peace in Gaza compromises the strict impartiality that UNICEF represents.
UNICEF’s primary duty is to protect the rights, dignity, and lives of children worldwide. Maintaining an ambassador whose public platform has been used to dismiss advocacy against child suffering in Gaza undermines the integrity of your humanitarian mission.
For these reasons, we urge UNICEF leadership to hold its public representative accountable to the highest standards of humanitarian ethics and remove Alecia Moore from her role as Goodwill Ambassador.
Doing so will reaffirm UNICEFs commitment to neutrality, integrity, and the protection of every child.
